Tonight Patrick will be playing the part of Scrooge

December 18th, 2007

scroogeSo, we’ve been kinda getting ready for Christmas. I’ve been a bit of a Scrooge by having to work extra hours so my Christmas to-do list isn’t finished yet. It seems that the servers all decided to take THEIR vacation early and I’ve had hard drives failing all over! Heather has been baking and decorating and wrapping like crazy. Next year I’ll have an extra week’s vacation and I’m thinking about taking the entire end of December off to de-stress and escape to some town with no mall :)

Nathan and Joyce come into town at the end of the week. We’re also going to have Mark and Ruth here, so it will be a full house. Maybe I’ll have the lights in the windows by then!

My son didn’t see me yesterday

December 12th, 2007

I left for work before Caleb woke up yesterday.  I took a peak at him sleeping to make sure he was alright before I left for work. That moment of peace before I left was one of the best parts of my day.

Work didn’t go so well.  Our mail server has a hard drive that is going bad, and I ended up staying till after 1 AM to fix it.  Thankfully, Heather was a wonderful wife and waited up for me and was baking when I arrived home. Getting to talk to her (even in my drowsy state) was the other best part of my day.  We got to talk while she mixed another batch of  batter and she told me all about their day together.  She has really gotten into baking and has been making fabulous treats for our family and others.  Yesterday she and Caleb took some pumpkin bread to the fire department.  Caleb got to see the small truck and the big engine with the ladder and hoses.  They even let him sit in the driver seat of the engine and turned the lights on for him.

On my way to bed at almost 2 AM, I took another peak at my son.  He was sound asleep and a bit congested.  His little night time snores are precious. After a few hours sleep myself, it was back to work for me.  Caleb was still asleep.  He won’t have seen me for almost 2 days when I get home tonight.  I’m so thankful that I’ve got a job that typically gets me home in time to have dinner with the family.
