September 23rd, 2005

Oh poo! I had this wonderful post written up yesterday. It talked about socks, and to-do lists and amazing adventures in baby raising. Sadly it was lost when I mistakenly closed the post without hitting SAVE. I tried to recreate it… but it’s hard being half as witty the second time around. So I thought I’d just let you know that I did write a post, it was brilliant and funny… but you’ll never get to read it.

On to new adventures:

This morning Caleb was in a bit of a mood after Heather left for work. The time between when she leaves (around 7:30) and when I drop him off at Robin’s house (9:00) is really the only time that I’m the sole person responsible for the little guy.

Anyway, I thought he might be a bit cold, so I put a blanket over him. He promptly calmed down, then grabbed the blanket with both hands and pulled it over his head and started to giggle. It was so adorable that I had to laugh out loud.

After uncovering his head, he started sucking on his newly acquired blanky, smiling every time he looked up at me. It was precious. It’s times like that I really wonder how I got so lucky. It’s times like that I forget about yesterday morning when he peed all over me, the bed, and his fresh outfit.

More photos are posted recently in the gallery … and I should (cross fingers) have Paul DeJong’s photos up soon. Right now they are on a CD and my version of Photoshop doesn’t have the correct plug-in to open them.

8 Weeks Old

September 7th, 2005

Can you believe it! At 1:17 PM 8 short weeks ago Caleb came into this world. I tried correcting Heather the other day… it COULDN’T be 8 weeks…not yet?!?! But, as is most always the case, she was right. He’s continuing to grow and change daily.

Robin, our friend who takes care of him during the day (I haven’t figured out what title to call her yet) has been just wonderful. We went to pick him up yesterday and she had a chart showing everything he did that day. So while his mom and I were stuck in our offices, he was out taking a walk around the neighborhood. Every week day I’m reminded why I’m so thankful that we didn’t go with daycare.

So, now to catch you up on all the events in our lives.

Heather’s company has this wonderful thing called disability insurance. It is suppose to help you out when you are unable to work. They say that they pay a percentage of your salary after you’ve been out of work for more than 2 weeks. Their unwritten policy is that they won’t send you a penny until they’ve sent and received letters from every single person who had anything to do with the process. So, 8 weeks after delivery… still nothing from them. The last info I got was that they were waiting on Kroger’s Pharmacy to verify that they filled the prescriptions that the doctor has already informed them about. I can’t imagine how single income families would ever survive.

On a side note, one of our cars is sick. If the car were a horse, it would have probably been shot and made into all kinds of horse products. I’ve heard that glue is one of them… and come to think of it… I haven’t heard of any other products with horse as an ingredient.

Anyway… we are lucky that it’s a car instead of a horse… and even more luckily… it’s a car with a warranty on it. So after many weeks of trying to get it fixed by a local mechanic, I took it to the Nissan dealership. They say that everything is covered by the warranty… and it looks like we might get a new engine out of the deal.

This has made getting to work a challenge. Today we broke down and rented a car since both Heather and I had places to go and people to see. It looks like the warranty covers most of the rental car cost as well. Remind me to thank my wife for her wonderful skills in negotiation. She’s the one who got the extended warranty in the first place.

Speaking of people to see… since Monday was a holiday, we took the opportunity to visit Paul and Sandy over in Augusta (you’ve seen them in the gallery if you’ve been looking lately). They were nice enough to do a photo shoot of our family, and got some beautiful pictures. I don’t think I’m allowed to show them off here, but if you are anywhere in Georgia and need a photographer… Paul DeJong is the man to call. They sent us home with a picture frame… one picture of Heather and Caleb, one of me and Caleb, and one of the three of us together. You’ll have to stop by the house to see it.

That’s about it for the moment. I’ll hopefully have some more pictures up in a few hours. Take care and remember to sign the guestbook when you visit.
