A Few More Photos

August 29th, 2005

Oof! Ugh! Arg! Sigh! I am one worn out IT person. It’s been a long day and it’s about 7 PM right now, and I’m still at work. I’m headed home though, time to spend some time with Heather and Caleb.

For your viewing pleasure, we’ve added some more photos of Caleb in the gallery. More witty banter to be added later… when I have energy to make with the funny.

Till then.

Ice Cream Social

August 17th, 2005

Our community had an ice cream party this weekend. Blocking off the street around our cul-de-sac, children were free to…run free. Parents were allowed to run free as well, but decided against it. It was a good turn out. Heather, Caleb and I went out towards the very end of the event and met several of the families on our street. We would have been there sooner, but when Caleb sleeps, we sleep.

It made me realize that having a cul-de-sac in front of your house is a true blessing. I can invision 4th of July parties and summer BBQs.

Still at work right now, so I’ll post more later. Back to the grind.

Visitors from the East

August 12th, 2005

In those days, visitors from the Far East came to see the child.

Well, not really FAR East… but Augusta IS a couple hours drive. Aunt Sandy and Uncle Paul are in town today and we’re meeting up with them for lunch. That means that Caleb gets to go out and about again. Now that he’s one month old (I can’t believe it either!) we aren’t so worried about taking him to public places. Most of the articles/advice/doctor’s info we’ve gotten say that one month is a good time to wait before taking baby out in public. My biggest fear now is that he’ll have a screaming fit in the middle of the restaurant.

Things have been great for the most part this week. Caleb was doing so well on his late night feedings, falling right back to sleep after eating. However, last night he had a “I’m crying for no reason” fit that lasted 2 hours. Once we got him calmed down enough, he ate a little and was much more relaxed. The only logical reason for the crying seems to be his tummy, but we’re giving him everything we can to help with tummy problems. I have had one suggestion that burbon helps put a baby to sleep… but I don’t see how ME getting drunk is supposed to help Caleb. :) In related semi-humor, a co-worker suggested I get a t-shirt for Caleb. I don’t know how well it would go over with family and friends though… it says “Daddy Drinks Because I Cry”.

Our First Big Adventure

August 7th, 2005

The three of us went out on our first big adventure today. Previously, we made a quick outing to get a bite to eat, and we’ve been on a few walks (when the rain holds off in the evenings)… but today we went to Baby’s R Us. Caleb was an angel, sleeping the majority of the time we were in the store… and then waking and quietly looking around for a good ten minutes. I struck up a conversation with a woman whose 18 week old baby was about half the size of Caleb. You should have seen the sour face he gave her when she commented on how big he was for being 3 1/2 weeks old. He actually looked a little offended. However, he kept his cool, and it wasn’t until we were just about to leave that he started making any fuss at all… and this time it was about being hungry. On a somewhat related note, the Nissan Xterra makes for a wonderful breast feeding vehicle with the tinted back windows. I highly recommend it.
While in the store, Heather was shopping for some mommy clothing so Caleb and I strolled. Thankfully, we were well equipped for the task with his handy-dandy stroller. It is so wonderful to be able to take the car seat out of the car and drop it into the stroller. He doesn’t have to be moved, and usually sleeps right through the entire experience.
We’ve taken several new photos, but unfortunately the camera cable is still missing. That means I’ll have to wait to post the photos on Monday morning when I get to work.
All three of us are doing well. Heather has been a true SAINT, doing most of the late night feedings and letting me get a good night’s sleep. I’m a bit fuzzy as to the requirements for sainthood… but I believe that soloing the late night feedings qualifies her. I will (of course) be in contact with the Vatican… getting the paperwork for her canonization filled out. If you have the direct line to the Pope’s residence, I’m sure that would speed things up a bit.
Lets see, random events also happening in our lives:
-The Altima has a “serious” problem that the mechanic said might be covered under warranty. I’m a bit skeptical, but he says the car burned through 5 quarts of oil in 8 days with no smoke. He’s refilled the oil, and we’ll see. If it happens again over the next week… I fear it may be a costly repair (warranty or not).
-My cell phone’s mic went bad, meaning I had 2 options (so said Cingular). 1) pay $50 and get a new phone from insurance 2) pay $50 and get a new phone by signing a 2 year agreement.
I went with option 3) pull out an old “brick” phone from the electronic junk pile at home, and move my chip to that phone for free. The phone part works great, but I loose all the features of the newer phone. If anyone has a really cool cell phone (camera/qwerty keyboard/cool toys and buttons/ etc) that they aren’t using, I’m on the market for a cheap replacement phone.
I guess that’s about it right now, more photos to appear tomorrow.
