Delay

June 29th, 2005

I think airlines do it on purpose. Yesterday they cancelled Mama D’s flight which means she had to wait for today, and try and make a flight across the US to visit. Now it wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t have to drive an hour including crossing the US border, only to have to turn around and try again today.

Hopefully she will be arriving around 9 PM tonight.

Let’s see, other news… hmm…
My brother just got a new job at Earthlink… free internet access for everybody!!! (just kidding). Mom was a great help this week. She came over and cleaned for us. Very much appreciated Mom :) My nephew Preston is saying “Mama” at 9 months old, and his twin sister Payton is just days away from figuring out how to crawl. It seems she’s the wise one though, she learned how to hide toys from her brother so he doesn’t steal them from her.

That’s about it for the moment. We’ll keep you up to date as things happen here.

P.S. – If this is your first time here, the older posts (including images of the baby and Heather) are viewable by using the Archive links at the bottom of the page.

Monday Update

June 27th, 2005

Well, the big day is closing in. I finally got some photos of the baby room. You can check them out in the photo gallery.

Crib View

We got so much done this weekend, and most of it was Sunday night.

The baby continues to be very active which can be very painful for Heather. There isn’t much room for the little guy, and every time he stretches, he’s putting pressure all over. I think we’re all about ready for him to arrive… as soon as Grandma DeJong (AKA Mama D) arrives Wednesday Morning.

It’s all coming together

June 23rd, 2005

Slowly but surely we are getting things finished. Most everything is in place as far as furniture, with a few projects left to do in the room. I still have to prime and paint the nursery door and get the new rails installed in the dresser. For some reason Home Depot has discontinued center-rail sliders for dressers. Instead I’m having to hack another type of draw hardware down to the right length.

After that, I think it’s mostly organizing the odds and ends and waiting for Caleb to arrive.

Heather’s mom will be headed this way at the end of the month. So, after the baby’s room is finished it’s time to start getting all the boxes and bags out of the guest room.

Depending on how things go, we might be making a run out to IKEA Atlanta soon… it opens on June 29th!

Heather made an interesting observation a few weeks ago… no one gives books as presents at baby showers. So I think I’ll take our friend Jennifer’s suggestion and get a library card. We’ve lived in Cobb for over 2 years now…it’s about time we used the services they provide.

Oh, and baby room photos will be up tonight hopefully.

Baby’s Room is Painted

June 16th, 2005

It looks amazing. The colors are perfect, and the ladies did an awesome job painting. It really looks like Caleb’s room now… or it will once we get the plastic up and organize the furniture. I’ll take some pictures tonight and post them.

Doctors, Dressers, and All Things Buggy

June 14th, 2005

We had another doctor’s appointment on Monday. From now on, we go every week. We got a quick ultrasound to make sure he was positioned correctly. He’s head down (just as he should be) and very active (that’s my boy!). We could even see that he has hair! :)

So the house is getting closer to being ready every day. The dresser is getting a makeover, the baby’s closet is primed, and tonight the border is being taped up, the door is being primed and the dresser hardware is being applied! Whew… so much to do… so little time.

Thankfully, some of the ladies of the church have offered to paint the room tomorrow.

Unfortunately, due to all the rain lately, we have a large number of ants and centipedes invading the house. I’m guessing it’s the dryest place they can find. The Orkin guy is headed back out to take care of that little problem though.

More to come later tonight…
