April 24th, 2005

He’s growing! We decided to add a picture for historical reference. It should be interesting to see how much bigger he gets.

A Weekend of Rest

April 22nd, 2005

This weekend is the first weekend in a LONG time that Heather and I don’t have anything scheduled. So of course, we’re going to try to catch up on stuff around the house. Hopefully we’ll be getting the paint for the baby’s room, as well as working on the yard. The ivy has been winning the fight… and it’s about time to show it who’s boss.

Small Miracles

April 6th, 2005

If you didn’t know it, I work the sound board for our church. It isn’t my favorite thing to do in this world, but I seem to have a knack for it and not many people know how to do it. It’s one of those things that you do as a service even though you don’t have a passion for it. I guess it’s missing that creative process that I desire. So when the pastor asked me to make a CD of Ellen, to CREATE something as a memorial for her, I was honored… and excited to be creating something that will hopefully be important to her family. One thing scared me.

Ellen never sang very loud. She sang with passion, but her voice was never overpowering. Her testimony sounded great, but I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to find songs where you could hear her. When I heard it live, I always had a hard time hearing her voice. Honestly, I don’t feel I ever did a great job of raising her volume up. I was afraid we’d lost her voice because of my poor job.

Small miracles are amazing. They aren’t “Red Sea” things. They aren’t “Lazarus” things. They are the things that could easily be explained away. But I won’t do that this time. The first CD I pulled, our of over 40, had three songs on it… each with Ellen’s voice shining through.

Reading to baby

April 6th, 2005

Last night I was reading to the baby using the microphone system we purchased. Heather’s been playing classical music to him, so I thought I’d join in and let him hear my voice a bit. It was really cool to think he’s hearing me… however muffled it might be. I probably sound like that guy in the movies who’s stuck in a trunk… you can hear that someone is in there, but have no idea what he’s saying.

I’ve been reading lots of other people’s online journals recently. It’s interesting to read about people’s day-to-day activities from their perspective. It gives a whole new appreciation of who they are and how they think. So, have you learned anything about me by reading this so far?

Oh, in other news… I’ve been told that Ellen, our friend with cancer, passed away yesterday. Thank you for your prayers for her (see previous post)… and for your continued prayers for her family.
